Katy Perry Admits She ‘Couldn’t Look at’ Justin Trudeau During Montreal Show
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau began dating during her Lifetimes Tour in 2025. She recently ended a nearly decade-long relationship with Orlando Bloom and was at the center of a great deal of public backlash. She said her relationship with Trudeau became a bright spot in a difficult period of her life. The relationship is important to her, something she seemed to know early on. When Trudeau attended her tour, Perry said she felt a rare bout of nerves.
Katy Perry said she felt very nervous to perform in front of Justin Trudeau
Perry has been performing live for over two decades. Naturally, she has gotten comfortable on a stage.
“I always create a super special fan experience,” Perry said during a screening of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live from Paris. “But I don’t typically get nervous.”
She said she did feel nervous before her Montreal show, though. At this point, Perry and Trudeau had reportedly been dating for just a few days. His presence in the audience terrified her.
“When the documentary comes, y’all might see me in a different way because … in Montreal, I was like, ‘I can’t look at him,’” she said. “A lot of energy.”
Katy Perry told her therapist she wanted love shortly before meeting Justin Trudeau
Perry said her relationship with Trudeau has been the best thing to come out of her tour.
“I learned how to step back into my purpose and I got the greatest gift from this tour,” she told People. “I got to meet the love of my life.”
She admitted that the end of her engagement, homesickness, and general backlash weighed heavily on her.
“It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away,” Perry said. “But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”
Right before she met Trudeau, she told her therapist that she was looking to live an epic love story. She believes that Trudeau has helped her do this.
“I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?” she said. “I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up.”
Since that first show, Trudeau has attended many of her concerts. Now, she is happy to see him.
“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” Perry said, adding, “He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”
