Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter, North West, has a style all her own. She’s shown off plenty of her unique looks on social media, from her super-long blue hair to a black grill to fake piercings covering her hands and face. Some have called North a trendsetter and influencer, but others have criticized what she wears and questioned why her mother lets her wear any of it.

Kim has defended her daughter’s right to express herself and said she is totally on board with North’s choices. The SKIMS founder even appeared with North on a recent TikTok livestream in which the 13-year-old fired back at critics, saying, “I’m not demonic … don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Kim showed her support for her eldest child again on Oct. 20 when she dressed up just like North with blue hair, long nails, piercings, and all. She shared a carousel of photos on Instagram with the caption: “Halloween 2026.”

While opinions are split on North’s influence at her young age, many consider her mom to be a trendsetter, and that rings true when one detail of Kim’s look sent internet searches soaring.

In the Halloween pics, Kim sported spiky lashes, also known as wet lashes. Search analysis by Fresha, using Glimpse, recorded a 41% year-on-year increase in searches for “wet look lashes.”

Fresha beauty expert Danielle Louise explains how to get a defined lash finish without automatically choosing longer, heavier extensions. She says getting definition should start with assessing your natural lashes, “When extensions start looking sparse, it can be tempting to ask for a thicker, longer set at your next appointment. But the first step should be checking the condition of your natural lashes. You can still create definition and texture with a lighter set. The right length, thickness, and application matter more than the name of the style.”

Louise advises taking a photo of the lash look you want to achieve to your salon appointment.

She added, “Wet-look lashes have defined sections that resemble lashes immediately after mascara has been applied. In a salon extension set, technicians typically use narrow, closed fans to create that separated finish. The effect can range from subtle texture to more pronounced spikes, making a close-up reference photograph more useful than simply asking for ‘celebrity lashes.’

“Explain which details you want to recreate: the pointed tips, the spaces between sections or the emphasis towards the outer corners. Your technician can then discuss suitable lengths, thicknesses and placement. A photograph shows the finished effect. It does not tell you which application method was used or whether the same set would suit your natural lashes.”

However, Louise warns, “If your lashes are looking fragile, ask your technician whether shorter lengths, finer fibers or a less dense set would be more suitable. Booking more frequent infills should never be a way of working around a set that is too heavy for your natural lashes … Aftercare should be simple and gentle. Keep the lash line clean, avoid tugging at extensions, and speak to your technician if your usual retention suddenly changes.”
