At Paris Fashion Week, Zendaya flaunted “wet lashes,” a new makeup look that will be everywhere this holiday season. Interest in the look has been jumping upwards since she wore it. Beauty experts shared what to ask a lash technician if you want a similar look.

Zendaya stepped out at Paris Fashion Week with frosty makeup and clumped lashes. Her makeup artist, Ernesto Casillas, spoke about what he wanted to achieve with the look.

“The inspiration for this was what I pictured a cool girl in 1999 to look like — frosty eyes, a clumpy wet lash and tons of gloss on the lips and cheeks,” Casillas told WWD.

Search analysis by Fresha found that interest in “wet look lashes” has risen 41% over the past year, with approximately 3,000 searches in the past month. These are lashes with defined sections, making it look as though mascara has been freshly applied. It is a popular runway look because of its doll-like effect.

A beauty expert shared how to get Zendaya’s lashes

Beauty expert Danielle Louise explained that at a salon, a technician will use narrow, closed fans to create a textured, separated finish. She recommended bringing a reference photo to an appointment. She also said that you should know what you like about the look, be it the separated sections, the pointed tips, or the overall shape.

It’s also important to make sure you work with what complements your natural lashes.

“When extensions start looking sparse, it can be tempting to ask for a thicker, longer set at your next appointment,” Louise said. “But the first step should be checking the condition of your natural lashes.”

She added that heavy lash extensions are not necessary to achieve the look.

“You can still create definition and texture with a lighter set,” she said. “The right length, thickness and application matter more than the name of the style.”

Aftercare is important with this look

Louise explained that the condition of your natural lashes is important to the look.

“If your lashes are looking fragile, ask your technician whether shorter lengths, finer fibres or a less dense set would be more suitable,” she said. “Booking more frequent infills should never be a way of working around a set that is too heavy for your natural lashes.”

It is also important to maintain good lash hygiene and avoid picking or tugging at them.

“Aftercare should be simple and gentle,” she said. “Keep the lash line clean, avoid tugging at extensions, and speak to your technician if your usual retention suddenly changes.”
