Royal Ascot has been in full swing this week as King Charles and Queen Camilla led the official Royal Procession in the first horse-drawn carriage on Day One. The opening day was also highlighted by the carriage debut of Peter Phillips’ new wife, Harriet Sperling, while notable royals like Princess Anne, Zara, and Mike Tindall were also in attendance.

Day Two brought out Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), with the princess making her first Ascot appearance in three years. And then on Day 3, an expert noticed King Charles doing something that conveyed him being almost “humble” while the national anthem played.

Inbaal Honigman is a celebrity psychic astrologer and body language expert. She has appeared in the media for more than two decades and given her predictions and expertise for Big Brother’s Little Brother, Elle Magazine, and talkSPORT radio, to name a few.

Speaking on behalf of Casino.Org, Honigman told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “It is the king’s and the queen’s humility in the face of all the crowds that unites them. As the carriage rides past, and ‘God Save the King’ plays in the background, King Charles does not present the body language of a proud man. In fact, he’s seen with his eyes lowered, his face turned downwards, which are ‘blocking’ gestures, protecting him from the attention of the applauding masses.”

Honigman continued, “He places his arm on the side of the carriage, balancing himself, which also has a humble air to it. Instead of bracing himself strongly, he’s not too proud to lean on the side of the car. A prouder royal may have held his chin up, raised his eyebrows, or straightened his back, in an attempt to appear more imposing, but not King Charles. When he chats to the others, he uses casual, wide arm gestures, with no airs and graces.

“Similarly, the queen is chatting amiably. Her signature ‘dampened smile’ means that she’s cracked a joke. It is a smile which boasts crinkled eyes and downwards turned lips, and it means that she’s said something funny but is trying to appear more serious.”

Another expert spoke about Queen Camilla’s sense of humor, which she always uses whenever she attends a royal event.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “[Queen Camilla] has an incredible confidence and a great sense of humour — much the same as the late queen. You can see this by the way the other royals interact with her, particularly Charles. They all seem to seek her out at these events for conversation and subtle reassurance in some ways, despite all of them being experienced operators.”

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
