Mia Calabrese Addresses Nick Viall’s Comments About ‘Summer House’ Reunion: ‘I Am Not Aggressive’ 

Mia Calabrese is speaking out months after being scrutinized for her behavior at the Summer House Season 10 reunion. 

Mia recently sat down with several other Bravo stars, including The Valley’s Jasmine Goode, Venita Aspen from Southern Charm, and Lake Rucker from Southern Hospitality, for a conversation with Marie Claire where they discussed their experiences as Black women on the cable network. The group opened up about dealing with backlash, being criticized for “doing too much,” and addressing racially charged moments on their shows, among other issues.

All the women spoke about feeling that they were sometimes criticized or judged in a way that a white cast member would not be. Mia specifically spoke about being called out for being “aggressive” during Summer House’s intense reunion special earlier this year. 

“[A]fter the reunion, someone called me aggressive. I won’t say his name,” Mia said. 

Mia did not specific to whom she was referring. But The Bachelor alum Nick Viall used the word “aggressive” to describe something she said during the reunion on his The Viall Files podcast. At the time, many people called him out for the comment. Now, Mia is also questioning his remarks. 

“I was asking maybe uncomfortable questions, direct questions,” she told Marie Claire. “But being direct, does it make someone aggressive? That makes me sure of myself. We cannot confuse those two. It’s OK to ask hard questions, because those questions need to be asked and answered.”

During the reunion, Mia called out the behavior of her co-stars’ Amanda Batula and West Wilson and questioned their relationship timeline. 

“Did you honestly just come forward because there was so much speculation? Or were you guys going to continue to lie to us?” she asked at one point, referring to the social media statement where their pair revealed their rumored relationship.

One of Mia’s fellow Bravo stars agreed that her actions at the reunion were far from aggressive. 

“The fact that you were even called that is crazy to me, because I feel like other people on your cast have been reckless and no one’s ever calling them aggressive,” Jasmine said.

For Mia, it’s clear that she wouldn’t have been characterized as aggressive if she was not Black. 

“Even when we’re looking at the reunion, I typically don’t raise my voice, and there’s not an aggressive bone in my body,” she said. “I’m not aggressive. It was actually like one of the first times I’ve been called that, and, of course, it’s by a white man. I found that fascinating because I’m watching this and I’m like, OK, well, let me watch this back. And I’m watching my white friends onstage, who to me were a lot more aggressive than I was, and those words never came out of his mouth about them.”
