One Controversial Element Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift’s Weddings Had in Common: A Snub
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been best friends for years. They are so close that Swift’s song “Dorothea” is reportedly about Gomez, and Gomez once suggested Swift was her only close friend in Hollywood. The besties even met and married their loves less than a year apart. While their weddings could not have been more different, there is one controversial commonality. Both ladies snubbed people who were once important to them.
Selena Gomez’s Snub: Francia Raisa
When Selena Gomez married music producer Benny Blanco on September 27, 2025, in a lavish Santa Barbara ceremony, the guest list read like a who’s who of Hollywood. Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Zoe Saldaña, Paris Hilton, SZA, and Camila Cabello all showed their support for Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco. Martin Short and Steve Martin were on hand, and childhood friends joined in for a relatively intimate affair. But one name was conspicuously absent from the guest list. Francia Raisa, the actress who donated her kidney to Gomez in 2017, did not score an invite.
The snub raised eyebrows immediately. Francia and Selena were once extremely close. At the time of Francia’s donation, Selena gushed about her on social media. She wrote, “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.” After the kidney donation, things between them cooled. Still, they shot down feud rumors, suggesting they had just grown apart. Even if they weren’t close anymore, fans assumed she’d at least get an invite to the main event, considering her kidney was already there.
Despite the public outrage, Francia insists she was totally cool with the situation. She shut down feud rumors directly, saying she’d “never said anything” to fuel the narrative. She later compared her kidney donation to a charitable gift with no strings attached: “If you are going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or somewhere else, you’re not going to call to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?'” Raisa added that she was simply “grateful” to have saved a life. Selena has never discussed her guest list rationale.
Taylor Swift snubbed Blake Lively like Selena Snubbed Francia
Nearly a year later, when Swift married Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden on July 3, 2026, history seemed to repeat itself. TSwift and Kelce seemingly invited everyone and anyone they could think of to their wedding. A large number of NFL players were in attendance. Hollywood heavy hitters, an NFL commissioner, and musicians from all genres made the cut, too. With over 1,000 reportedly attending, fans very quickly noticed that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were hundreds of miles away in upstate New York instead.
The snub seems to finally prove rumors that Taylor and Blake have fallen out of favor with each other after Taylor was pulled into Blake’s legal drama with Justin Baldoni. The rift was largely confirmed after leaked text messages between the two women, exposed during the litigation, revealed a very strained friendship. Still, the former friends were once exceedingly close. Taylor is the godmother of all three of Blake and Ryan’s daughters. The wedding snub, however, feels like the nail in the coffin of that friendship.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have not commented on the snub. Still, they seemed more than happy to make it clear where they were during the holiday weekend. Photos of them in Lake Placid instead of New York City don’t feel like an accident.
