Jeopardy
Jeopardy! is an American game show TV series created by Merv Griffin. It’s a quiz competition during which contestants are given clues in the form of answers and must give responses in a question format.
From March 1964 to January 1975, the daytime version of Jeopardy! aired on NBC; it featured Art Fleming as the host. This was followed by a nighttime syndicated version that aired weekly from September 1974 to September 1975, and then a revival called The All-New Jeopardy!, which aired weekdays from October 1978 to March 1979, both on NBC.
The daily syndicated show that most viewers are familiar with today premiered on Sept. 10, 1984 — with Alex Trebek as the host and Johnny Gilbert as announcer. On Jan. 8, 2021, Trebek’s last episode as host aired following his death. A rotation of guest hosts then took over for the majority of the year.
In August 2021, Executive Producer Mike Richards was announced the permanent host of the syndicated version — although he stepped down shortly afterward in the wake of multiple controversies. Mayim Bialik will now host primetime specials on ABC, future spinoffs, and most syndicated episodes, with Ken Jennings also taking on some hosting duties, too.
