Timothée Chalamet claims he had a ‘genuine bond’ with Armie Hammer from the very beginning

In a segment for Variety, Chalamet was asked to discuss his on-screen chemistry with Hammer. He said the two of them had a “genuine bond” since the very beginning despite just being introduced to one another. The Ladybird actor went on to say that their experience in the film was quite similar to real life because, like their characters, they were spending practically all their time together.

Chalamet revealed that he really got to know Hammer while filming took place. They spent months biking around as they explored the best coffee shops and nature spots, just like the characters do in the film. He said their chemistry was “random luck of the universe.”

Upon Chalamet and Hammer’s first meeting, Director Luca Guadagnino decided to have the actors break the ice by rehearsing a scene before filming. He had them practice a kissing scene so there would be no initial embarrassment between the actors before shooting. The director thought it was best to get it all out of the way in order to make a good film. It’s safe to say, his methods worked!

Describing the rehearsal, Hammer revealed in his interview with Ellen,

“So we start making out, and we’re making out, and making out, and no one is saying ‘stop.’ All the sudden, we both kind of stop, and we look, and Luca had just walked away. He had just left us there rolling around in the grass. And that was our only rehearsal.”

Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer are still friends

Fans can let out a sigh of relief, because Elio and Oliver- Er, Chalamet and Hammer, are still close pals. During Hammer’s interview on Jimmy Fallon Live, when the talk show host asked if the two still kept in touch, he revealed that he just face-timed with “Timmy” that morning.

Based on their social media accounts, it is clear that they’re still close, because they are frequently commenting on each other’s Instagram posts and tweeting at each other. Just recently, Chalamet responded to Hammer’s hilarious Tiger King post in which he dressed just like Joe Exotic. The Beautiful Boy actor revealed his stamp of approval by commenting “hot face” emojis.

And to further prove that the beloved actors will do anything to remain in touch, they will both be returning to their roles as Elio and Oliver for the Call Me By Your Name sequel. Rumors about the sequel have been floating around since the initial film came out.

In 2019, the author of the novel from which the film is based on came out with a sequel to the first book, titled Find Me. Perhaps the second Call Me By Your Name film will follow the plot line of this story. Regardless, it seems as though everyone is on board for the second film.

When asked about whether or not he’d be up for a sequel, Hammer told Variety, “I want to see it happen. I want to do it again… I miss the whole crew. It was such a special time,” he gushed. “It was such a collaborative, unique, and totally immersive filming experience that I never really had, nor since. If we get to do another one, I’ll feel really lucky.”

Mutually excited, Chalamet was quoted saying, “I know Armie and I are 1,000% in.”
