‘Dexter: New Blood’ Theory Says Trinity Will Be Harrison’s Conscience

Dexter Morgan finally seemed to get the answer to the question of whether Harrison has a dark passenger in the latest episode of 'Dexter: New Blood.' Now, fans are wondering if he has a voice in his head and who that person might be. One theory is that it'll be The Trinity Killer, the man who murdered his mother before him.

From the moment he was born, Dexter Morgan wondered whether his son, Harrison, would inherit his dark passenger. All signs point to yes at this stage, but viewers still don’t know for certain. But if he does, some fans of Dexter: New Blood believe The Trinity Killer will serve as his conscience.

‘Dexter: New Blood’ Episode 4 confirmed Harrison’s dark side

The latest episode of Dexter: New Blood finds Dexter rushing to Harrison’s school after getting a call that he was involved in a scuffle. When he arrives, he learns Harrison stopped his classmate Ethan from shooting up the school. Harrison suffered a nasty knife wound in the fight, but he’ll be OK.

While Harrison is praised for his quick thinking, Dexter side-eyes him after realizing inconsistencies in Harrison’s story, including irregularities in the blood spatter patterns. Debra assures him of Harrison’s innocence, but the more he hears about the case, the more things just don’t add up.

Eventually realizing the knife used would not have left such injuries, Dexter scours through Harrison’s belongings and discovers a blade resembling the one Trinity used to kill Rita Morgan. “He has my dark passenger,” Dexter says to himself.

Trinity could be Harrison’s conscience in ‘Dexter: New Blood’, fans say

Many viewers agree that Harrison has a dark passenger, with Trinity in his head telling him what to do.

“Trinity is Harrison’s dark passenger & the straight razer is Harrison’s weapon of choice which killed his mother,” one fan decided on Reddit after the episode aired.

Another person wondered if Trinity might even convince Harrison to murder his father. They wrote: “harrison kills dexter in the last episode ‘sins of thy father’ with the trinity killer as his dark passenger telling him to do it because he is the reason rita is dead.”

Others pushed back on the idea

While many could see it happening, others didn’t feel it was likely.

“it doesn’t make any sense that Trinity is Harrison’s voice of reason,” one fan wrote in another Reddit thread. “Harry was Dexter’s because they formed a relationship and for Dexter, the Harry in his mind was a coping mechanism that allowed his father’s teachings to live on after he had died. Harrison had no such bond with Trinity.”

“Yeah I don’t believe Trinity is Harrison’s dark passenger,” another agreed. “He was a baby…wasn’t even 1 yet…when Trinity killed Rita. I highly doubt Harrison is going to have any meaningful memory of Trinity. Trinity is likely to show up in a flashback scene or make an appearance to Dexter like ghost Deb. I could see Trinity taunting Dexter about Harrison.”

John Lithgow, who played Trinity, has confirmed he’ll be back in a flashback, but it’ll unclear if happens to Dexter or Harrison. All we know is that his return will be “short but decisive,” according to a Deadline report.

Trinity was first introduced in Dexter Season 4. Like Dexter, he seemed like an average guy, but in reality, he was a serial killer. He and Dexter spent much of the season chasing after each other before Dexter killed him at the end. But in a shocking twist, Dexter returned home to find Trinity had killed Rita earlier in the day, leaving Harrison sitting in a pool of her blood.

After losing her, his sister Debra, and several others in a similar fashion, Dexter ultimately faked his death and fled Miami after leaving Harrison behind. The revival begins almost 10 years later, following Dexter as he tries to suppress his own murderous urges. But he slips, putting himself and everything he loves in danger once more.
