Netflix finally shared the first teaser trailer for Locke & Key Season 3 during Netflix Geeked Week. The action-packed video blessed us with a release date of Aug. 10, but it also left us scratching our heads. Here are some questions we have after watching the teaser.

[Spoiler alert: The following story contains spoilers for Locke & Key Season 2.]

Did Tyler forget about magic?

Tyler Locke (Connor Jessup), the eldest Locke child, was on the cusp of turning 18 years old in season 2. Unfortunately, that meant he would soon become an adult and forget about the Locke family’s magical keys. Tyler could have used the Memory Key to make sure he kept his magical memories. However, he ultimately decided against it because he wanted to move on. Tyler left at the end of the season for a quick road trip before his birthday.

Tyler is back in the Locke & Key Season 3 teaser, but he looks confused while standing outside the Locke house. Could that mean he forgot about the magic? On the other hand, Tyler does appear alongside his mom and siblings throughout the teaser as they fight against evil. Perhaps he decided to use the Memory key after all.

What will Bode do with the Timeshift Key?

New key alert! In the teaser, Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott) stands in front of a grandfather clock. He inserts a key to activate an hourglass-shaped mechanism with Roman numerals at the top. We don’t get to see what Bode finds, but he looks absolutely dazzled.

Locke & Key comic book fans will recognize this as the Timeshift Key. It was first introduced in Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft #6. Whoever uses the Timeshift Key in the grandfather clock can witness events from the past. They can’t change anything about the past, but this key can come in handy for gathering information. Users can select any date going back to 1775. Meanwhile, in the present, time will pass slower.

What is Frederick Gideon planning?

The end of season 2 brought a new and much more dangerous villain: Frederick Gideon (Kevin Durand). In 1775, the British captain discovered the Black Door in the sea cave. He allowed himself to get hit with a Whispering Iron, which caused a demon to possess him. Gideon died, but Eden (Hallea Jones) brought him back as an Echo in the present day. Considering the fact that he killed Eden immediately, we’d say Gideon is a major threat.

Gideon shows off just how powerful he can be in the season 3 teaser. He opens several portals to the demon world and even brings back some of his former soldiers. But what is Gideon’s endgame? World domination, probably.

How was Dodge able to come back?

The end of the Locke & Key Season 3 teaser brings a major reveal: Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) is back. But how is that possible? When last we saw the demon, she was sent to her demise by Tyler. He stabbed her in the neck with the Alpha Key. Both Dodge and her alter ego, Gabe (Griffin Gluck), died. Or so we thought.

One possible explanation is that her human host, Lucas (Felix Mallard), survived the Alpha Key, even though both the host and the demon typically die. His survival could mean she still has a connection to the human world. Whatever the case may be, Dodge definitely wants revenge.

Locke & Key Season 3 premieres on Netflix on Aug. 10. Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming now. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for more updates.
