Bridgerton has the stars do some difficult stunts. But Luke Newton revealed there’s more to those dance scenes than just memorizing steps. He revealed why that’s the hardest part of filming in a press conference on March 21, 2022.

Dance scenes are important in ‘Bridgerton’

Bridgerton takes place during the Regency era, where royal balls took place for different celebrations. The first season showed 11 balls, and they gave opportunities for the main characters to try to find a wife or husband.

The show’s historian said it was also true that what happened in these private events would be written about publicly afterward like Lady Whistledown, according to Shondaland. People were judged for who they talked to, how they looked, and how well they danced.

Some of the same dances were used in multiple scenes, which makes it easier for the actors. But Newton admitted that dancing was still the hardest thing to film for season 2, which included horse riding, pall-mall, and more.

It sounds like dancing doesn’t get any easier with time. The cast revealed in a press conference that dancing is still one of the hardest things they have to do.

“I find the dancing,” Newton said. “I like the dance rehearsals and doing the dancing is great. It’s when you’ve got the earpiece it’s like one of the hardest things because there’s like action going on.”

He also mentioned people talking also could make it hard. “Hats off to the dancers because they do it every take, and they do it perfectly, and then I step in, and I feel like I’ve got two left feet because I can not hear the music,” Newton said. “I hear everyone else talking.”

The actor also admitted he tried dancing without the music in his ear only to be told he was “massively” out of time. He also revealed the actors move their earpieces to different ears to keep them out of scenes. “It becomes headphone choreography which is great,” he said.

Charithra Chandran, who plays Edwina Sharma, chimed in, saying everyone had to watch her dance for a scene and that was scary to film. “Everyone was sort of staring at me,” she said. “And you know you can’t help but feel loads of eyes on you.”

But her nerves were true to the scene for her character, so it was helpful. “I guess she’s a bit scared in that moment, so it sort of makes sense,” she added. Fans will soon see how Chandran’s scene played out. Bridgerton Season 2 is released on Netflix on March 25.
