The Crown

The Crown is a historical drama series on Netflix that focuses on the British royal family. It was created by Peter Morgan (who was also the principal writer) and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. Season 1 begins with Queen Elizabeth II marrying Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, and ends with Princess Margaret's engagement to Group Captain Peter Townsend ended in 1955. Season 2 of The Crown covers the time period between 1956 and 1964 — from the Suez Crisis, to Prime Minister Harold Macmillan retiring and the birth of Prince Edward. Season 3 picks back up in 1964, covering Harold Wilson's run as prime minister and, and ends in 1977 after introducing Camilla Shand. Season 4 of The Crown covers the time period between 1979 to the early 1990s, including when Margaret Thatcher was prime minister and Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer's wedding. Season 5 takes place between 1991 and 1997, exploring Charles and Diana's wedding and eventual divorce. Season 6 of The Crownconcludes the series and follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The first four episodes were released on November 16, 2023. The final six episodes premiered on December 14.   The Crown has snagged 21 Primetime Emmy Awards and has taken home the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama twice.
